A dental crown is a tooth-saving restorative dental treatment designed to protect, seal, and reinforce a patient's natural tooth that has been significantly compromised as a result of decay, injury, or other damage by completely capping and covering the exposed portion of the natural tooth. Our dentists, at Pristine Dentistry, are pleased to provide this same tooth-saving treatment in less time and with fewer dental appointments to patients with same-day CEREC crowns.
What Are Same-Day CEREC Crowns?
In the past, dental crown treatments required multiple dental visits, sticky physical dental impressions, and for patients to wear plastic, temporary crowns while they waited for a permanent crown to be manufactured in an outside dental lab.
Same-day crowns are made using CEREC (chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics) technology. As a result, we can create dental crowns right inside our office using state-of-the-art computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology.
During a single appointment, our dentist prepares a patient's tooth for a dental crown, takes digital impressions (no sticky mess!), and loads the data into powerful design software. We then use these specifications to design a custom-fit, natural-looking crown that is manufactured in our office with a high-precision milling machine. Altogether, dental restoration with a same-day CEREC crown appointment takes about an hour.
What Do Same-Day Crowns Mean for Our Patients?
Same-day CEREC crowns offer patients all of the benefits of traditional dental crowns but in much less time. Patients leave the office after a same-day crown appointment with a completely restored tooth that feels comfortable and blends in seamlessly with its neighboring teeth.
Additional benefits of same-day CEREC crowns include:
Do You Need a Dental Crown? How Dental Crowns Are Used
Dental crowns have a variety of restorative and cosmetic treatment applications. Most commonly, they are used to restore a tooth following a root canal procedure. They can also be used to address aesthetic imperfections such as irregularly sized or shaped teeth or teeth with permanent discoloration. Additionally, dental crowns can be supported by dental implants to replace missing teeth or to anchor a dental bridge.
